What is USB Power Delivery 3.1?Updated a year ago

USB Power Delivery (PD) 3.1 is the latest charging protocol published by USB-IF Standardization Organization. This update allows devices to negotiate higher power levels up to 240W over a USB Type-C connection. Prior to this update, USB PD was limited to 100W.

As this more advanced version of the USB Power Delivery Standard supports higher wattage charging, it extends the application of USB Power-Delivery to more power-intensive devices such as gaming laptops, 3D printers, and more. It also enables devices to charge charge faster and perform more power-intensive tasks simultaneously such as running high-performance applications or charging multiple devices at once.

Additionally, USB PD 3.1 has more advanced features such as improved voltage regulation and protection mechanisms for safer charging and supports bidirectional power delivery to both send and receive power from the same cable.
